Paxton was caught in a live trap in South Carolina- he was very hungry, very scared and had many bite and wound marks all over his body.  It was obvious that this poor dog was used as bait for dog fighting. For whatever reason, he was "let go" or escaped.  He has been in the shelter since August 2017.  He was scared and growly - especially towards other dogs - rightly so as he was only used to other dogs being mean to him! 

Thankfully, a volunteer at this shelter saw more to Paxton and advocated for him.  She posted him Dec 15 - only in hopes to get him a Christmas gift package.  Instead, he caught the eye of a board member with Purr-fect Match Animal Rescue!  With the help of donors, he was moved Dec 19 to a kennel at a veterinarian's office in NC.  He will receive the best care as well as some extra loving and socialization. 

In just the 2 days he has been there - they have already seen improvement.  A vet tech took her 4 yr old child with her to work and the girl walked past Paxton's kennel and to our amazement - Paxton ran right up to the door!  This is the first time this has happened!  He wagged his tail and was happy to see this girl!  He gave her kisses too!  So - kids are a fit for Paxton! 

Paxton has become a completely different dog since his arrival at the vet kennel. He is happy, he greets people when they walk past his cage.  He even walked INTO a neighboring dog kennel and laid down with the 2 dogs in it!  That is amazing!  Now we will still test him with all dogs and at this point, he will need a calm dog, but for now Pax would enjoy being spoiled as an only dog.  He gives kisses and loves to eat chicken!  He has a couple special toys he is learning to play with and loves the sunshine!  He wasnt outside much, so he loves to lay in the sun!

Paxton  has arrived in WI on Jan 7, 2018.  He is doing wonderful already, a completely different dog!  He is still a bit cautious, but comes up to people and is eager for petting and loving!  He is very curious about other dogs and once he settles in a bit, will be able to socialize with calm dogs.  He does not like play with another dog if that dog jumps on Paxton.  That reminds him of his past and he does become defendive.  He looked at the other dogs and seemed better with dogs his size, larger dogs did make him hesitant. He has kept his kennel clean overnight, so his house training seems good, but accidents can always happen!  He was curious, but not aggressive towards a resident cat, however the cat was caged.  He has not been loose with another animal.

An ideal home for Paxton would be one where he will receive patience to learn to be a dog. At this time, we feel Paxton needs a home where he is the only animal - so he can continue to enjoy being a dog and live the spoiled life he deserves.  Paxton loves snow and loves children - so he would like a family of his own and a big yard to play in. 

If your home can give him lots of love, kisses and attention as well as patience in learning and a calm environment, then Paxton could be a fit for you!
