Melanie is a super sweet gal.  She is about 2 years old and a very smart dog.  She is a lab/chow mix and is a fluffy  medium-sized dog. She was found as a stray in NC. When she tested positive for heartworm in the shelter, she was not even going to be put on the adoption floor--she was going to be euthanized. Caring people stepped in and helped Purr-Fect Match get her to a place where she received the medical care she needed. Then others helped form a cross-country relay to get her from NC to Wisconsin. It was really amazing.  Now she is here and in search of a loving, forever home.

She is black with a white spot on her chest. She loves belly rubs and giving kisses.  She loves to be the center of attention and gets along well with other dogs. She wants to be everyone's friend and please you. At the moment, she seems to prefer men, but there isn't any issue with women... she just seems to go to them first.  Melanie does go in a crate when no one is home at her foster house.  She could be given free roam with some training. She is excellent with potty, but doesn't always announce when she needs to poop.  She is getting better at  that.  Keep in mind that she spent 27 days in a boarding kennel being treated for heartworm. She does sit at the door when she has to go out.

Melanie has a pet bed and will lay on that when told.  She does like the couch, but it became too much with the resident dogs in the foster home - who all wanted to be on the couch - so now all of the dogs are kept off of it!  She will go to her bed when told.  She has been off leash and does well, but her foster mom has always been with her where someone else is watching.

She would do well with some obedience training.  She is VERY smart and learns quickly - so repetition or class room style would be well worth it. She likes soft toys and will entertain herself (remember the 27 days in the kennel... well, this is probably where that came from!). She will toss a toy in the air and play with it.  Quite entertaining actually !  She does like shoe laces and flip flops - yes she will chew them - mostly the softer brands.  That is her foster mom's current concern with giving her freedom during the day.  Again, with time and training, she could be given free roam. She is loose at night at her foster house and prefers to sleep on one of the children's beds. The door to the room is closed at night, because there are cats in the house and it keeps everyone calm.

Melanie likes cats, but wants to lick them and will chase them if they move. She doesn't hurt them.   She does better with smaller dogs - which is why her foster mom thinks she likes the cats. She currently lives with 2 labs, and does just fine with them.

If you think that Melanie would be a wonderful addition to your family, we can arrange a meet and greet.
