Oscar is a young boxer –lab mix about 4 years old.  He is very gentle and loving.  He was found in an abandoned home - incredibly thin.  He also tested positive for heartworm which is almost an imminent death sentence in southern states.  His skeletal frame and heartworm condition were against him, but Purr-fect Match saw him and said we can help!  He was kept in a foster home while he gained weight and he adored the foster dad. He has a connection with men, although he is a sweetie to everyone.  He is good with other dogs, but prefers humans.  He needed to get some good food and put on some weight.  He is undergoing treatment and should be able to travel mid March.  UPDATE: Oscar had managed to work his e-collar off and chew at a staple on his recent neuter incision.  He had a big hole open.  His groin is swollen. We took him to the vet at Aiken Animal Hospital, where the vet diagnosed him with a scrotum hematoma.  He also has a infection in that area as well.  He was running a 104 fever.  The vet strongly advised me that he was going to need intense hydra therapy and close monitoring for the next few days. Meaning he would be over night at the vets office until his condition stabilized.   For him to do this work, he must have been really hurting.    The next day, Oscar had to go through a emergency

  • Scrotal ablation means complete removal of the scrotum. Since the scrotum covers the gonads in intact animals, orchidectomy is also performed with scrotal ablation.

This morning they vet tech's had to call in the doctor as Oscar was 'bleeding out'.  Dr. White got to the clinic and had to make the emergency decision early this morning to do the procedure. After the procedure was done and the scrotum was removed they saw way up in an area that you could not see with the naked eye - it had ruptured.  Hence why he just would not stop bleeding.  The procedure went off without a hitch.  I have just been notified that he is awake and looking good.   Prayers to Oscar as he has had a very rough past month!

Oscar is recovering and doing great!  He is in a foster home and loving life.  Check out his new picture - sitting so nicely on a chair!    He is ready to travel March 20. however it may be early April before his arrival due to transportation backlog.

March 24, 2015 UPDATE:

We have had a hiccup with our dear Oscar, he did his follow up treatment of Ivermectin he also tested positive for some hookworms.  He was breathing funny so the vet x-rayed his lungs and found them to be full of dying microfilia from the heartworms.  He had a reaction to the panacur and ivermectin as it was given to close together.   So with his lungs looking so yucky, the vet has put him on 30 days of steroids.   So our dear boy cannot leave for 30 more days.  He is a tough boy and should be able to travel after April 24.  However, this also means we have an additional vet bill of $436.  We were able to receive donations to cover the first surgery of $756, which is good news, but we need to work on his additional expenses.  He sure has a story to tell !
